Ever since my first trip to Salone de Mobile in 2017, I’ve had a slight obsession with all things terrazzo. And while I’ve yet to find a use for it in a permanent installation in my home, it always stops me in my tracks when I see it done well in someone else’s. The mix of color and texture is refreshing to see when done in just the right balance. Originating in ancient Egypt, terrazzo found its groove from the 1920s through the 1940s with the Art Deco and Modern movements. In the 1970s, technological advances made it easier and less precious to install, returning it to favor once again for the budget conscious. Today, it’s baaack and better than ever. More inventive + luxurious color combinations, applications and just-right installations make this love-or-hate design staple fresh and fun again.
