You Have Time for Art

Stop the scroll. ⁣

YOU HAVE TIME FOR ART. Yes. You. I say this with love, because I see you scrolling quite mindlessly these days. (Because. Honestly. Same.) ⁣

Hi creative art

No judgement here, only accountability. We creatives have to stick together and motivate each other when things and life and days and energy get stale and stagnant. We have to keep our creative spirit alive - even on the days we don’t feel like it.

So for now. ⁣

Step away from your phone. ⁣Or your iPad, laptop or wherever you are right now.

Grab some paints. Or crayons, markers or colored pencils. Whatever you have works. Grab some paper. Of any kind.⁣ Scissors, tape, glue- all the good stuff that gets you excited and eager to play.

⁣Set a timer for 5 minutes, maybe 10 if you’re feeling ambitious. Turn on some music. (If you need some inspiration, check out my favorite playlist to create to). Take a few deep breaths in and out.⁣ Clear your mind of the usual clutter and repetitiveness that whirs there constantly - OR - lean into the clutter and paint what comes out.

Now, pick 5 colors. Or 3. Or maybe just start with 1. Whatever feels right to you. ⁣But, limiting your options is good (especially when you’re just getting started)

Make some marks.⁣ Just START!

If you’re stuck on what do  do or how to move, you could_⁣

  1. Smear the paint. ⁣

  2. or splatter it around.⁣

  3. or draw some circles. and color them in.⁣

  4. or create a pattern.

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, challenge yourself to create with new-to-you colors or shapes. You could create a series of works that all tie together. Or create a one-off that’s unique and diverse from what you normally create.

Follow your intuition and let it guide you. Try not to second guess yourself too much. I often find some of my favorite pieces were spontaneous or unplanned.

That's it. Easy peezy. Congratulations!

You made art.

You made time. For you.

To play and create and have some fun.

Now, pat yourself on the back. And start again tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after that.

Find some time in your days (and in your mind) to nurture your creativity. Daily.

I love networking, sharing, and engaging with fellow creatives. Share your creations with me by tagging @thecolorkind on Instagram!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Xx,

Jill
